Randy, on the right side of the engine there is an inspection plate. It is in the area of the fly wheel and about the size of a 50 cent peace with one screw in it. Remove it. If you have a timing light you can connect it to any plug wire and point it in the hole. Set the timing to 5 deg btc. If you don't have a timing light, the points should be opening when the 0 deg mark is in the window. FIY the fly wheel is marked in 2 places 180 deg apart. That makes it so every time a plug is going to fire, a 0 deg mark will be in the window.

You said it was running fine until you replaced the wire from the coil to the dist. Take your dist apart and make shure you didn't break the sheet metal wire that goes from the feed thru screw to the points.

Good luck and I hope this helps. Post back your results.

Randy..... .I flunked mindreading, just ask my ex-wife.....but here goes.....both frontmount and sidemount distributors turn CCW. The fireing order is 1,2,4,3. Check your sparkplug wires. Believe it or not, N-engines will run mis-wired, they are "that good"! They just don't run "great".

Its really, really, really hard for gear driven camshafts to "jump time", unlike engines with timing chains. But it is really eazy to mis-wire your sparkies. Check 'em out..... Dell

Is your tractor correctly timed, and are all your plug wires correctly routed and untangled?

I own a NAA FORD TRACTOR that didn't get any spark. After buying a new coil, solinoid, points, plugs, and condenser and cap and rotor I took the top part of the distributor off and scaped off all the corosion. I replaced the little wire that went from the distributor stud to the points and that did the trick.
