I have read Zanes note on checking things first before tearing into the lift system, just one question. Zane informs me to remove the right hand inspection plate on the tractor, when I remove the lower bolt it starts to run out hydraulic/transmission oil(80-90 gear lube), my questions is this, should I drain some of the fluid out before looking? If I do this how can I run the system to check for leaks with no fluid in there? I have never gone into the hydraulics before, but I don't think It should be too difficult. Any help will be appreciated. Winter is coming and I need to get the hydraulics working on this "new" 8N to plow snow. Thanks in advance.

Rick,
Don't worry about what comes out the inspection plate, there will still be plenty left for proper lubrication. I Think Dr. Zane has said on more than one occasion that some will come out if there is too much in there to begin with.If you look in the archives there are many previous posts about working through the inspection plate, but be careful about sticking your hands in there. Some moving parts can be very unkind to fingers. Hope this helps!

Park the tractor on a slight incline away from the inspection plate you're opening to avoid the mess.
