I just read the problem of 8N238409 a few post
back and have somewhat the same problem.
Can someone tell me if my 8N430724 has this gas
tank vent hole and if so where.about six months
ago i had to replace the water pump and i got,the
bright idea to take the gas tank off and clean
it inside and out, then i undercoated the thing
twice, may not be venting but it looks good. Paul

Ford has a gas cap for the 8N with a vent and a rollover valve in it. There was a recall on the old cap! You may be able to get the cap for free! I did.

Top, center of tank, under the 'hood'. Did you 'undercoat' the top too?
Loosen the cap and see if that fixes it. If it does, then your 'hole' is plugged.

I did the whole thing,I sanded and wire brushed
every where and swear i didn't see any vents.
Is it a special design or small pin hole type?
Was sloshing out alittle gas on rough ground and
i put a new gasket on the cap and it didn"t run
10 minuets, had to remove it. Paul

The vent hole is a little tiny pinhole in the dome on top of the gas tank. It may not be in the exact center of the apex of the dome.

If you did not notice the dome or the hole, you may have an aftermarket tank that did not have this in the design.
Don't just go drilling a hole in the top.
I think that the hole in the OEM tank is sort of a 2 layer design in that there is an air space between the tank layer and the vent layer with a hole in each. I believe this is to prevent fuel sloshing out the top layer hole.
