After letting a buddy borrow my 8N, it was running super bad, and quit after I got it back home. I ended up rebulding the starter, distributer, carburator, and governor. It starts and runs now. However, the slighest increase in the throttle causes the engine to race. My assumption is I did something wrong when I rebuilt the governor. Can anyone help with the following questions?1. When I took the original governor out the gear was attached to shaft with no movement. I drove the gear from the shaft. There was no set screw, pin, etc to hold the gear in place. I assumed the orignal shaft was bent. The gear now spins freely on the new governor shaft. A. Should it spin freely? B. If not, what should be done to keep the gear from spinning freely on the governor shaft? C. Were there different shaft diameters manufactured? 2. The various manuals I have mention that there should be .23 to .28 gap, and is not absolutely clear between what (clip & washer). There is about a 1/2 inch play between the base washer and clip. There is one shim. A. Should it be this way? B. If not, what part am I missing? 3. The carburator lever only moves half the distance that the throttle lever moves. In addition, the throttle lever moves half the distance to the original stop setting. Is is possible to put the fork on the lever shaft on backwards? I thought I layed it on the floor the way I took it out.
