Regarding my post below about backfire, flame-out, timing and sputtering here's what I did to fix it...yes it's fixed, running like a champ, even smoother than ever...whoa boy!

I followed all of the advice from the responses:

Timing: Found TDC #1. Ensured wires were all correct on cap. Turned rotor to #1.

Carburator: The real culprit:

Took it all apart again. Removed all needle valves, and interior items and jet screws. Blew it all out at 120 PSI from compressor.

Put everything back in place, but ensured tight fit, and slightly adjusted spring to float. The pin has a trendency to stick closed...so worked on that by ensuring it was lightly placed.

Sealed it back up. Installed a very minor amount of gasket maker on the sediment bowl side of the carburator. Installed sediment bowl. Put small gasket on hex-head side of bolt that holds bowl on to carb.

Tightned the fuel line to the bowl. Then tighened the bowl to the carb.

Connect throttle and choke linkages. Turn on gas at tank...NO DRIPPING! good.

Put Negative cable on battery. Pulled choke, 1/2 throttle. Turned key. Pushed starter...VAROOM!!!

No gas blowing out of carb...no drips at bowl. Timing is right on the mark. SMOOTH...she's idling away as I sit...Now it's time for a Keystone, Coors Light, and CHivas...and the Lose England Patriots.

THANK YOU to all who provided the timely advice. I'm smiling once again...another learning experience. THANKS Again. 9N'er

Congrats! You have spent some time on this one. I have been following with bated breath.
Looks like we both had a good day, as I finally got my left brake backing plate arms removed (from) old plate and installed on new plate. Brake shoes are ready, too. NOw to duck the much needed rain that we are receiving and do as suggested by other board members, clean out all reservoirs , remove trumpets and PTO shaft, check bolts and clean everything.

Congrats. It feels good to fix something yourself, doesn't it. I hope no more problems come your way. My 9N has been doing well all summer long. No touble with starting or running. Though I will soon need a new battery since this one is very weak. I've noticed a little drip once in a while from the carb if I leave the fuel open. I may need to do as you've done before long. Thanks for the tips. They will come in handy so as not to screw up. Be safe up there in NH. Hey, I've got a freind that is from NH. He can see vermont mnts from one of his hills on the old family farm. His last name is Willey. They grow Christmas trees. Lots of trees. See ya.Dale in VA.

Where in NH? We just moved about 30 miles south, but from the place we moved, we could see Vt. too. Nice country...
