i have a ford 8n tractor with the front mount distributor. It had been running fine then all of a sudden it stoped.I checked the wire on top of the coil it has the proper voltage going in. i removed the distributor cap and turned the engine over you would only see the points spark here and there not as the are supossed to. i checked to see if the side of the coil that feeds the distributor cap was send out any thing. i tied a wire around the hook and held it off the engine to check for a spark but got none. i removed the distributor to check the points they appeared to be ok i did have trouble in getting an air gap of .015. the esentric screw was very hard to turn. i think my problem is in the coil or the condeser. has anyone had this problem? does any one know how to fix it?
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

In case any one is wandering the tractor has gas in it. i was also unable to get a spark from the plug wires or the spark plugs. though one of my friends held the wire attached to the coil and got a good jolt.

what should the voltage coming out of the coil going in to the distributor cap be at the bottom of the coil? it set at 6 volts then while i turn over the engine it will go up to around 10 volts berfore droping back down to 6volts again. should this not be a considerable amount more in order to fire the spark plugs?

If this is a side-mount distributor, check the insulation around the lug where the primary wire goes through the distributor body.
