8N governor problem

My newly purchased 8n has a rattle in the vicinity of the generator or governor. The tattle is especially loud at idle speeds. I disconnected the fan belt from the generator and the rattle still persisted which leaves the governor. I recall some forum heading of flat balls and a worn out rod as it referred to the governor (not our governor jesse ventura). I am about to take the sucker off and do an inspection and possible repair. Any advice before

This is a common problem.. Also check the upper and lower races for wear from the balls... You can buy a new centrifugal assembly for about $80.00. Make sure that you replace the correct mounting bolts on the govenor assembly. One of the two is longer and will hit the timing gear if incorrectly assembled. Someone on this board put together a Rebuild pictorial which is excellent, but I do not remember who it was..
Happy Motoring

I suspect this is the rebuild page your thinking of.

Rick:

Thanks for providing the link for the governor rebuilding by Don. Wow this link has all the details you need to tear into the governor. I think I am ready to start on this baby.

Thanks again Claus and Rick.

Claus:

Thanks for the advise. I am new to the forum but I sure have read your advise on other problems with the good old n's. I appreciate it greatly.
