I was called to fix a 39', 9N. The problem has quite a few people stumped. So here goes.
The problem is it will not start with the manual push button switch, it will start with the crank after only a few cranks. It has the 6volt system.
The battery, starter, battery cables and wiring harness have been replaced. The points have been replaced but the owners not sure if timing is right. Plugs and plug wires have also been replaced. The generator is a three post type, and owner states that it looks to be very rusty and corrioded inside. He also states that he has tried to boost with 6 and also 12 volts with no luck and aslo has tried to by pass the switch with no luck.
Any Help For This Cause??

First a few questions. Did the fella jump the tractor from the 12v sorce correctly? Did he jump straight to the battery or to the starter? While trying to start from battery, does the tractor have spark? Was the tractor running correctly before the wiring harness was replaced?

My suspision is a bad wire or a bad crimp somewhere in the coil primary circuit.

You left out one very important fact. Does the engine crank (Turn over) when using the starter switch? if not, the switch itself could be defective. Try a jumper cable from the minus post of the battery directly to the starter post. If it cranks with the switch, the battery could be weak and not have sufficient current left for the ignition system. If this is the case, one could run the ignition from the spare 6 volt battery for test purposes.

Assuming Claus's answer is yes - it is cranking the only thing that I can think of is that it is not cranking fast enough. With a jump (to starter - not battery) from a 12V source one would expect the system 6V to be as stable as it is when hand cranked and the starter ought to be spinning the engine as quick or quicker than the hand crank IF the starter ring is FIRMLY attached to the flywheel. If the ring with the teeth the starter actually drives is slipping all bets are off.

Good point Paul....All he has to do is watch the fan...If it is a bad ring gear on the flywheel, then no turney of the fanny....
Sorry could not resist...
