I have 2 9n's that I am looking at for the owners, one of them seems to have a draft problem. all compression checks in the 97-100 range. Tomorrow I hope to try pulling this thing and see if it will start that way. My question is:
While cranking, the air inlet to the carb, has very good suction. Is this normal even when you have poor updraft due to valve leaks??
Thanx
Ron

Ron..... ...Ford specs: 90 psi min. Sounds like no sticky valves to me. (would probably be down around 60-70 psi) leave alone good valves make for good suction. So based upon what you've told me, I don't see what your problem is.

But I'll make a guess, "it won't start". Good vacuum (suck) will flood an engine and muck up the sparkplugs with no lead fuel and all the sparkies leak off. Only cure is a set of new plugs, there not that expensive when you're fightin' a startin' problem.

Make certain the gas flows, I pull the plug innna the carb bottom (also gets rid of water). Check all 3 filters, including the one in the carb elbow.

Hows the sparkies? Does it start on ether quick start? If'n it don't, good bet ya gotts sparkies problems. If'n it koffs on ether, its a fuel problem.
But ya probablys already knew all that stuff. Good Luck..... .Dell
