I have a 52 8n,its still 6 volts, I took it to the local tractor shop. One of the things he did was replace the generator. After I ran it for about 15 minutes, and turned it off, the battery was sizzleing. The tractor shop guy told me my battery was no good. It was good when I took it there, Its just that the generator couldn't keep it fully charged. Where do I start?

I checked all the wires on the generator, they all seem to be in the right place. The positive cable is the ground. I polarized the regulator,(touched bat. with arm.) I got spark when I got done. The battery still sizzles, after it's been running. I put a voltmeter on the battery when it wasn't running and it said 6.8. When it was running it said between 15 and 17. Now I think the battery is fried because it won't hold a charge overnite. Before I had to put the charger on it about once a month, but sometimes I didn't run it for two weeks.

Al..... .Battery should'n sizzle. Yer over charging it or "miss-charging" it.

I'm assuming your tractor mechanic is smart enuff to realize N-Tractors are suppost to be POSITIVE GROUND. if'n not, shame on him.

Remember, anytime you disconnect eather the generator or replace your regulator, you must "re-polarize" 'em. Never hurts to re-do the polarizing routine. And since I aways have to look up how to polarize the generator/regulator so I don't make a mistake, I'm gonna let you have that pleasure instead of me.

Check yer generator wiring, its eazy to get the field and armature wiring crossed when replacing the generator..... ....Dell

Al take a voltage reading at the battery when the tractor is running, and see what you got.
sounds to me like regulator, overcharging.
Good luck Jim K
