How come sports fans think they have to turn every conversation and every forum to sports talk?
Isn`t if enough for them to waste their time on that idiot crap? Why do they presume that everyone else is as dumb as they are?

Hey Ross,

Me? dumb? wow! I don't think so. But thanks for your insight and humble words..."that everyone else is as dumb as they are" me?

Hmmmmm mmm interesting concept. Now I know, it's not just me, it's the rest of the world too.

Would it have helped if I had put an "OT" in front of my post? Come to think of it, isn't that an abbreviation for "Overtime" But to be more in line, my post about the Patriots was a tongue in cheek response to the earlier post about the Rams. You really took the ball and ran with it but the problem is, you ran in the wrong direction. Thanks for the laugh. 9N'er

"Why do they presume that everyone else is as dumb as they are?"

Because you are more fact than presumption and more dumb than stupid when I read your dumb post.

Let's do a search on your name, find out how many OT posts you have sent or replied to, and see who is the self righteous idiot.

IMHO, the two posts about the two "sports teams" were not offensive, didn't become defensive, and as with everything else, who are you to judge what is appropriate on this site. Your an idiot.

Last line in your post, "Your an idiot".
You were attempting to use the abbreviation of "you are". That would be "you`re". I may be an idiot, but at least I am bright enough to use a common contraction correctly.
Maybe you could run through that second line again, as I can`t make any sense of it. Did they actually give you a diploma?
Do all the searches you want. You won`t find another OT post in my name. What does that matter?
I have nothing against OT posts, in fact, I find them quite enjoyable. What I do have a problem with is jock sniffers such as yourself who think I should find eau de jock as heady as you do.

Ok ok you win Ross. You got me. Are you pleased with yourself? I did not communicate my message to you well. So here is my correction:

"I have nothing against OT posts, in fact, I find them quite enjoyable. What I do have a problem with is" educated idiots such as yourself. I find those to be the worst kind. Mix that with self congratulating snobbery and arrogance, and you get a guy named Ross.

And oh, farewell ye masses and enjoy the game on Sunday. Randall

Yes, in general, I am pleased with myself. I am particularly pleased to be referred to as an "educated" idiot, since I made it all the way through high school. If I appear educated beyond that, it is probably because my brain hasn`t been eaten away by sports addiction. Have you considered some kind of 12 step program? I hear that after a while some of the lost mental abilities begin to return.

Ross,

First of all you must remember that the word Fan
is just an abbreviation of Fanatic.
It's true. Look it up. Fanatics aren't usually interested in the rights and opinions of others. I personally believe that if all the professional and college teams were transported to another planet this would be a better world. And if I was the dictator of all the earth, pro sports are the first thing I would ban. Maybe then people would actually read a book, or throw a football to their sons, or vote, or go to a school board meeting, or whatever. But, I don't think the teams will be transported nor will I get elected even to dog catcher any time soon. So somehow we're all going to have to get along.
You might also remember that the games have been around for a long long time. In about 300BC When the Spartans defeated the Athenians in the field they sent runners back to Athens to call out the militia, who failed to turn out, because they were more concerned who would win in the Olympic games. And so Athens was sacked. And don't forget about the Circuses which held the Roman masses transfixed while their leaders duped them and led them any old way.
The people have always loved their games.

I too saw the posts about the games yesterday. I just ignored them, like I did the games themselves. And while I'd rather never see anything about sports on this board I must remember that I too have made some off topic posts. Deer Hunting anyone?
Some off topic posts have delighted me immensly, more than many posts about Ns. And I see this place as sort of a community where lives are lived and more than just tractors are discussed. And if a loved one passed away or if someone's roof is leaking or Mr X buys a new truck or has another son or wins the lottery or someone else breaks their foot I'd be glad to read those OT posts and condole or congratulate as the case warrants.
And if others care deeply about their teams I guess I'd expect them to do likewise.
Sports are insideous. Not much of a way to escape them.
I too am weary of them. And am glad there are other misfits who resent them and disdain them and vote against more tax money for stadiums with me.
But let them post I say.
And in the mean time you may join me in my smugness and willfully ignore those few posts which invariably will come up during the playoffs and the Super Bore. And take heart knowing that there are other hermits and Spartans who keep watch while the masses are fixed on their games.

Jerry

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I am not alone.
My personal dream for fans and pro athletes is for all of them to be shipped to Cuba to work in the cane fields. They have way too much free time on their hands.
I know there is no escape, but sometimes I get a belly full and have to speak out. I once had a person comment to me about a football team, and ask what I thought about them. I told him I had no interest in them, didn`t follow sports at all, and that I didn`t care about football. He spent about the next ten minutes telling me about it anyway. It seems inconceivable to them that you have no interest in that nonsense. On the other hand, if you try to talk to them about government, or something else that really matters, their eyes glaze over and they tune you completely out.
I sometimes wonder if the whole sports scene is a gov`t plot to keep the masses occupied and ignorant of what is going on in the country, and you are right, it worked in the past.

I am not a big sports fan, althought I do enjoy watching the Canucks play hockey because of the home town thing, but I don't see where the problem lies, if the posts where every second post or everyday,I would just go to another website that didn't have these, but I have no problem at all with what goes on this site, I rather enjoy being here.In my opion this is a great site with every OT subject a part of the great people on this board, are you maybe just overeacting?

You know, you may have a point about sports talk leaking over. But you are WAY off base assuming they are stupid wastes of time and you are even further out in left field assuming sport fans are ignorant. My wife thought sports were stupid until she decided to pay attention and ask questions. She quickly realized they were much more about strategy and tactics rather than brute force. Watching football is a heck of a lot more interesting than watching chess, but you get the same type of strategic moves on mulitiple levels. Yes, I personally would much rather "play" with my tractor, wood work, or a number of other things than play couch potato all day. But I choose to be well rounded and broad minded, so I do selectively watch games. More importantly, it gives me something to talk about with other guys and is a easy way to encourage male bonding (no wise cracks please). You can continue to an uninformed hermit if you like, but keep your negativity to yourself.

Erie county NY tax payers spent millions of dollars to build a stadiumn for grown men to play childrens games in and get paid BIG BIG bucks to do it. It cost tax payers over 2 million a year in upkeep. They are laying off teachers and closing schools because they have no money for that. Now you tell me who is not very bright. Dont say that it brings money to the county. It does nothing for anyplace but Buffalo and its imediate suburbs. There is more to Erie county than Buffalo. If sports are so good why is it not privately owned and not a burden to the tax payer?

Um...ALL PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAMS ARE PRIVATELY OWNED! I agree with the concept of the futility of spending tax dollars on stadiums. Keep in mind, an election was held for a bond package, AND THE PEOPLE SPOKE, so now you have a new stadium. I don't know if I could accurately say that is the reason your county (or city, whatever) is running out of money. That is called poor fiscal management. The situation is fixed through electing new officials. I often here the phrase "grown men playing childrens games". That is so wrong. Nearly all professional sports were invented and initially played by grown men (grown in the classical sense, old enough to have children and to fight in battle). Go to the respective sports hall of fame and read the sport's history. Not only that, pyschologically speaking, sports are substitute for fuedal conflicts. Basically, one can say modern day sports is a continuation of man's primordial drive for conquest and provides a release for what would be otherwise pent up hostilities.

I don`t care about sports one way or the other, it is the idiot fans that think the world begins and ends with their particular sport that get to me. I like to listen to talk radio and without fail some fool will call in and try to turn the conversation to sports. I get really tired of that drivel. There are a lot of stations that run sports crap 24 hrs a day, but that isn`t enough for die hard jock sniffers, they want every station, every day, talking sports.
It is rather presumptious of you to think that I am uninformed because I don`t pay any attention to sports. I think you are the one that is probably uninformed if you find it necessary to talk sports in order to "male bond", as there is a whole world of things to talk about other than sports.
