I have a 1951 8n that needs rebuilt. Whats the diff. in types of sleeves, and lifter types Idon't want to spend the money if it's not worth it or better, any thoughts?

If your engine SN is before 433578 you have .040 hardened steel sleeves and a star before and after the SN.
the other sleeves are cast iron and .098 large diameter than steel, and a diamond before and after the SN. You should have adjustable tappets on the 1951 if you do not I would get them.

One word of caution. Don't depend on the serial number as proof of whether you have steel or cast sleves. Most engines have been rebuilt at one time or another and it is even money what you will find. I wouldn't order parts until I had it torn down.

Your mileage may vary

There are .090" cast-iron sleeves and .040" steel sleeves. I prefer the cast-iron because IMO they seat rings better, disperse heat more evenly and can be re-bored as an option to replacing when they get really worn. I bored my 52 and put in slightly oversize pistons. next time I'll re-sleeve.
The adjustable tappets and exhaust valve rotators give longer valve life. Hardened valve seats, ditto. I don't think the difference in cost will make or break you, so I'd go for the latest evolution.
