Other than the fact that the seller has no idea what he is selling, there is a pic of a what looks like...well...I dunno...in the lower radiator hose...

Take a look and tell me if you have a clue...

OH, I thought maybe it was the cra* laying around the tractor and since he was selling it and because it ran so good he did not need to move it to a better location to get more for it with a better picture. Never could understand someone selling something on ebay taking the picture of something sitting in the middle of a junk pile and trying to make it out like this is the best deal around and TRUST ME I took good care of it! Hey guys, take a close look at the picture taken from the front left. If you look at the right front wheel, it looks to me like that is the back side of a brake drum behind the wheel..could it be that they used a VW hub and wheel assembly so they could mount VW rims?? Bet it drives reaL nice...considering metric vs. American sizes for spindle, bearings, etc.
As for the instrument(??) in the lower radiator hose, I think it is some kind of aftermarket starter that forces the water in the cooling system through the water pump with such great velocity that it turns the motor over thus explaining the wild blue yonder seen between the back of the engine block and the steering gear housing in the profile photo..don't need a battery when you start with water pressure!!!!
Just an amusing observation on my part.
It's raining outside and as you might have guessed, not only has it been a looooonnnnngg day, I'M BORED...

yup thats a heater in the radiator hose, not the biggest seller on the tractor kinda a waste of a picture but ,I guess with it being winter and all,. He thought it was important feature,.I gotta check my barn to see if that is my tractor????? ,, when I bought mine it had that on it too, and those wheels I never saw them any other place than mine,,,never knew and still dont know where they come from, I dont think escort tho, too big bolt pattern, they dont fit the bolt pattern new holes are drilled to accomadate the 9n holes, he prob got the serial # off the 8n engine he has in there huh?? mine is a 40 9n and has a high serial # i think 49-50 ,, even my 9n is painted those colors,,, it must be the twin to mine, ok enuff rambling on have a good day guys and if anyone know what the rims are , i'd like to know

I don't believe that they are Volkswagen wheels on the front, probably Ford escort.

Looks like '38 Ford rims for 16" tires 'cuz those are NOT 19" tires. Shaddows make it kinda hard for my ol'eyes or is it my small computer screen? (grin), but kinda looks like "I"-beam front axle radius rods for 9N's. Didja notice the frontbrake drum on r/f in the semi-headon photo? Commonly done because bad N-hub and junkyard parts are cheeper..... ...Dell

I had emailed asking about that, they responded that it is a 39 - 42 9n but I thought 41 was last year for the 9n with the 2n starting in 42 I might be wrong.

It is the flux capacitor add-on kit.

third party image

That is how it can be a 1950 9N - time travel

I agree it is probably a heater to aid cold starts.

The mystery for me is the wheels. Does anyone know if those are Ford car wheels? Would any early Volkswagon (sp?) wheels fit?

It is used to heat the water in the engine. That close up sure shows it needs the radiator hose replaced. Mark H.

Yes , that is a circulating water heater , the best(for my money) type of heater avaiable as the warmed water is pumped all through the water jacket.
