41 9N hydraulic lift lever keeps popping up?

I worked my 9N hard yesterday for the first time. Everything worked well at first. Then I noticed that after I lowered the lift, after a few minutes the lever would be in the center position and the lift would raise up a bit.
This seemed to get worse as the day went on.
When I was unhooking a tilt bucket from the back it was like a ghost was working the hydraulics. I'd lower the lift walk in back to unhook the bucket and the lift would come back up.

Paul, your ghost must make house-calls, as I have been plagued with this same problem for years! Anytime the engine is running and the PTO is engaged, my '41 9N will raise the lift arms if I don't keep my hand on the control lever. I had already tried tightening the tensioning screw and replacing the cork gasket, but still the problem remains. I am getting tired of bush hogging my pastures with one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding down the hydraulics. As far as installing a Zane Thang, I have never seen one and it's quite obvious from the feedback on this board that it's an excellent product. However, I would hate to install it and turn my back on this problem. I would at least like to solve it before moving on the next task. Has anyone else ever encountered this problem and what is the cause? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same problem for some time. I adjusted
this, I adjusted that, nothing. I bought a
Zane Thang. Installed it today. Problem solved.
Zane for President!!!

I bet you just need a thicker cork disk. The one I made is 1/4" thick, and if I had wanted to, I could have tightened the spring & nut tight enough that I wouldn't be able to move the lever at all. My $.02..... .

You gotta get a ZANE THANG position control for that tractor. The 9N didn't have the option of position or height control. Only draft control.

When you install the ZANE THANG you can then disable the quadrant friction clutch because you won't need it anymore.

To the rear of the lift lever there is a tension nut assembly. I would Try turning the tensioning nut a little to put a little more pressure on the lever.

I just fixed this problem yesterday on my 43 2N, with thanks to the folks on this board. There is a 2" or so diameter disk on the control lever. Behind this disk is a cork friction disk. I replaced the cork and now mine works fine. I made my own using 2 thicknesses of 1/8" gasket material cut to the diameter of the disk. Works great.
