Does anyone want to race against me and my 8N tractor for sport? Now that the Super Bore is over, I need a competition to train for and make a little money on the side. Ross? GRIN

Being that it is winter and all I think some ice racing would be on the program right after the free style jumping contest like on the X-games on the toob.

I put my Sherman on the high side and opened it up in third gear once. That was about as much excitement as I want on an N. I love my tractor dearly but running down the road at what felt like 60 or 70 MPH raised my pucker factor far too high...

I don't think there is too much interest in racing the big tractors but there is a gaining popularity in lawn mower racing. Back when I had cable TV I actually saw a race on TNN?

This is actually an organized sport, it is run by the National Lawn Mower Racing Association

I have even seen the web site!

Think it's nlmra.com?

Sorry, I don`t have an N. You want to go a couple of laps against my 961, or maybe my 850? Perhaps it would be more of a contest if I ran my jubilee that is broke completely in two just behind the transmission. You will have to give me time to tune that one up though, it`s running a little rough. Or maybe I could use the 971D with the transmission that doesn`t work. No, I`m going to use the 861D with the engine that is laying out on one cylinder. That would be fair. Bring on the N!

I'm interested in the 961. What's it's worth? What condition is it in? I know of one nearby and the old boy doesn't know much about it either, other than it runs. E-mail or post to me, please. DON TX

I have thought of that before. We have a number of teans out racing their hot rods on back roads every Saturday night. I've thought it would be cool to drop a 350 sm block, retro-fit the tranny, and put on giant racing slicks and go blow these guys away. But of course, with the "high-tech" smooth ride system on the front, I'ld probably be in trouble there.

The guy I got my 2N from told me when he was a kid, he and a few other boys would race their N's when going in from the fields. He said one guy had tied a string to the govenor linkage as a "turbo" boost.

There used to be tractor races up here in PA right down the road from where I live. There was this old horse racing track. During the horse races we used to drag the track to smooth it before the next horse race. So, after the horse races, we would DRAG RACE our tractors. That was the beginning of the modern day DRAG RACES.
