I have a question about the deck plate in a front mount distributor? Is ther supposed to be insulation where the condenser connects to?Mine only seems to have a brass eyelet. It also has a copper band running from it to the points. What is this for?? I replaced points, coil, condenser and plugs but tractor still won't fire. Can a deck plate be purchased seperately and if so where?? Thanks to all befor hand

The place where the capacitor connects to the brass screw is supposed to be insulated by a black or brown fibre insulator. These insulators through wear (when tightening the brass screw) has a tendancy to short to the tab that comes up from the point plate. The copper band connects to the points. Of course this whole mess is grounded when the points are closed, so you need check for a ground short when the points are open..

Claus, thanks for the timely reply!! I guess I'll just have to make me an insulator?? Question,is the inulator on the front of the tab(where screw goes)or on both sides?? Would you know of anywhere to get a deck plate if my attempt to fix fails? The dis is still good and can see no reason to buy new one if i don't have to!! Where i live here in ohio it is a long haul to find anything that is if you can find it. Thanks again roger

Point plate $25.00 or so.. Available from Walt's Tractors. I made an insulator from an old set of points because they had a similar setup... The other side where the strap goes is the insulator on the points... The tab must be insulated on both sides as to provide isolation from ground at the terminal. By the way, this terminal also connects to the spring on the coil. This is the primary of the coil (Ground side when the points are closed)

Claus,Thanks again for your reply. I'am very happy to report that I found a gentleman right down the road from me who had a deck plate and put in a insulator for me. Came home and re-set points, installed dis, turned on key and hit the start button and she fired right up.The greatest sound i have heard since my son was born!! I had called one place (about 25 miles from here)and they wanted 60 bucks for one. Now i can go get some work done!! Thanks again for all of your help and its people like you who make this site so great!!
