My 9N was not running in its normal reliable fashion this past weekend so I pulled the carb off to go through it. On the intake side I found a small spring, which was not attached to anything as one end was broken. I ordered a rebuild kit (New Holland – part# APN9590A), which had a replacement spring but did not show where it connects in the diagram. Reviewing Don Stewarts article on carb overhauls did not show the spring. Can someone steer me in the right direction?

If it is the little spring that is about 1/8" in diameter and has a hook on both ends and is about one inch long it goes on the flap valve on the choke butterfly.

You will have to remove the two screws from the butterfly and then remove butterfly so you can get the spring back on the back side of the shaft. Then push the butterfly back over the shaft with the flap on one side and the butterfly on the other.

If it is a round spring with a hook on one end and a flat on the other it is the spring which makes the choke go back to the off position. This spring will have to be installed on the shaft after the butterfly and the shaft has been removed so that it can be slipped on the shaft end where the lever is.
