I am going to place an ad in the local paper looking for a 6' wide 3pt. digger. I don't know if this is the proper name for it. I have also heard it called a tiller. Dad always called it a digger. It looks like a cultivator except that it has straight shanks which are held in the downward position by two large horizontal springs above each shank. These springs allow the shank to move rearward if a large rock is hit and then will bring it back in place again. This is a very handy implement for smaller plots and unfortunately the one on the home farm is no longer around. Thanks for any help.

I also have what was described to me by my father as a "field cultivator". It is in need of a paint job. It is sorta red, but my father tended to paint everything red. Does anyone know what the color was orginally? Thanks for the conversation.

Paul, What you are looking for is the 'Field Cultivator' That is the proper terminology. That is what Ferguson called it and so did Dearborn. When I went to get new springs to replace the 3 missing ones I had, I found that by having the NH dealer go to the Dearborn parts catalog for them I was able to get the springs..
Good luck

Out west we either call them a culivator, the type with the duck foot or shovel on the end of the arm, or we call it the Spring Tooth. Lots of them around, you can pick up a 6 or 7 foot wide one here for 150.00. These kinda took the place of the drag type Disks. Although the disks are still used by farmers to till the ground after they harvest their wheat. Good luck on getting one. I guess the verbadge is just what people call them and pass it on to their kids.

Thanks Ed, for the picture it is exactly what I was talking about. It is a real handy implement but you can work the heck out of the tractor when using it. Thanks guys for the help.

I have one that was purchased with our new 1950 8N. We always refered to it as a field cultivator. I have used this tool for anything from breaking ground to pulling small stumps and roots. Sorry it's not for sale. I am sure somewhere I have the original manual for it.
