I am going to use 3/0 copper cable for the service entrance to the house I am building. I plan on using a few extra feet to wire the battery/ground cables for the 8N I am restoring. Home Depot sells it for 77 cents per foot. It is kinda of stiff though. But it handles a lot of current. Over 200 amps.

Sounds like a bit of overkill on the wire size. Also not recommended to use "stiff" solid wire as it is prone to breakage with vibration over a relatively short period of time. 200 Amps at 240VAC equates to 8000 amp capacity at 6V. Don't think the tractor battery has anywhere near those guts. Get some flexible battery cables and you'll be happier in the long run, and have a much easier time making them fit your tractor. Best-o-luck!

Paul,
You might find the 1.0 cable as TSC or CT if they have any left. I got the cable and some terminals that screwed onto the cable end and are held in with a set screw. I did away with the set screw and soldered the terminals onto the cables, they'll carry more amperage with less resistance that way. I could have waited for one of our local auto suply stores to order them in, but wanted to be up and running sooner than that.

Yup...

1/0 fine wire welding cable with neoprene insulation, copper ends and brass battery terminals from WalMart...silver solder them up good and then use shrink tubing to reinsulate what you cut off to solder....make them to the exact length you need...Appx. $10/set and 1/2 hour of time...I bought a 25 foot coil of 1/0 cable for $27 including tax from a welding supply company...I have made sets for all my friends and my hard starting Jeep CJ...wanna see 12 volts spin in sub-zero?...use 1/0 cables LOL...

Most auto parts stores will order them if they do not stock them. Look for them at Wally-World if you have one, they are hit and miss sometimes have them and sometimes not, often our store has 2/0 cables which are even better. If you don't want spend time looking call Don at Just 8N's.

Hey Gspump,
Don't you have that backwards? I thought that the larger the number the smaller the wire, at least that is the way it looks on the 0/0 and 2/0 wires I have. (Don't have a 1/0 to compare with)

Sometimes the local tractor dealers, John Deere, New Holland, etc. can make them up for you, at least in our area they do. Problem is, they might charge more for them.
