I'm in the process of securing a belt pulley for the 9N. That's fine and good, but I need a belt.

How difficult is to aquire one of these? are there places where they can be made or purchased? and how much will a new one, or a used one in decent condition cost?

I plan to run a cordwood saw.

Item Two: I may have a line on a ford front bumper. But I have not verified by photo if it is the horzontal 4 bar type (what I am searching for) or something similar but not orginal.

The gentleman that may be sending the photo of it says it is missing the lower bar (I'm hoping that the vertical braces that hold the bottom horizontal bar were not cut-off).

Someone recently posted a comment about having a shop repair one of these. How difficult is it to rivet the bar, and how difficult is it to locate the same size rivets? assuming that I can fabricate a lower bar. Thank you in advance. 9N'er

9N'er,

I'm searching for a cordwood saw and pulley too. I keep checking the uncle henry's, but no luck on the pulley. I'll help you out on the belt. I'll need some guidance from others regarding the length, width, endless(or with lacing), how thick, number of plys, small pulley diameter..... Send me an e-mail.

there are three cordwood saws in last Thursday's Uncle Henry's. I didn't call the ad that listed two or three of them. But I called the ad with one listed and it was sold. I'll e-mail ya. 9N'er

Most places that sell hay baler will be able to make you a belt of what ever length you need. A belt about 6 inches wide would do the trick.

I spent the day Saturday at a tractor and arts and crafts show making corn meal with my Meadows grist mill and the LUC John Deere power unit that I have mounted permanently on a tandem axle trailer. Now if I could just get something to pul it with that doesn't burn so much gas. You can actually see the needle move down pulling the grist mill. The grist mill is driven with a flat belt. My grandson helped me and we had a good time talking to folks and selling corn meal. We had a hand sheller and the kids all loved to shell the corn. They carried off every corn cob that came out of the sheller and were thrilled to death with them.

Sounds and looks like it was a day well spent. Weather looked great too. I split wood in spitting snow and rain. Awoke to 5 inches this morning and the plow barelling down the road.

9N'er, Do you have a Dearborne or Ferguson Cord wood saw? They should be the same belt. If so I can measure mine and send you info.
The front bumper uses either 5/16" or 3/8" round head rivets. The bar is not that difficult to make. If you have a good one on the bumper you can use for pattern.

A friend is giving me his father's old and sitting and frozen Allis Chalmers saw. He said it is well made, and I haven't seen it yet to know...but I am hoping that I can fabricate whatever I will need to run it from the pulley. p.s. I am trying to locate a Dearborn or a Ferguson saw though...I would prefer that..but the price is right for the Chalmers saw. I do plan on restoring that saw...and paint it ford red and grey...even though it was at one time a godforsaken peach/orange color. Imagine driving a tractor with those colors!! :) I'll let ya know when I aquire the saw. Another road trip for another rusted implement. thank you Bill. 9N'er
