While looking for a tractor to tear apart and rebuild; I noticed several n's have holes in the starter area. The hole is next to the starter mounting bore. Does the hole make the crankcase bad? Anyone have an n or jubilee for sale in the southeast al area? 500 to 1200

How big a hole are we talking about? Is this hole really in the block or in the side of the trans case just back of the starter? I'm thinking maybe a Sherman shifter hole for a Sherman no longer lurking in there.

You aren't looking at freezeout plug holes that no longer have a plug in them are ya?
ALl depends on how the plug got out of the hole if that's the case. Definitely a look into further deal.

If it looks like the starter hole has been enlarged then it is fine...many N owners enlarge the hole slightly when they try to replace the starter. The starter covers it up and it does not harm the integrity of the housing. Assuming of course that it is the starter hole that we are talking about...
