That was a good 10 hour day, for Zane & the 8N.I have the same 2-12" Dearborne plow & with a good 8n I can plow in 2nd gear @ around 1700-1800 revs (about 4 miles per hour).much easier than regular plow MUCH easier on knees & dash I have been taught that tractor @ 3miles PER hour & 36" plowing width = one acre per hour. Does anyone know the full formula?? I would love to hear more stories like todays feature store by Zane. Please share some. THANK YOU.

Burt-
To find out how many acres per hour you can plow you multiply the plowing width in feet by the tractor speed in miles per hour by 5,280. Take the result and divide by 43,560 to get acres per hour. Using your example....

3 x 3 x 5,280 = 47,520

47,520 / 43,560 = 1.09 acres per hour

Further, if you divide 1 by acres per hour, you get hours per acre. Multiply that by 60 to get minutes per acre....

1 / 1.09 = 0.917 hours per acre

0.917 x 60 = 55 minutes per acre

So what you were taught was correct!

If only you could plow a straight line with no turning or over lapping!! When purchasing commercial lawnmowers they rate them as acres per hour. However, I have yet to find a yard 60" wide and 7 miles long!! LOL

I loved that 48 8N Ford tractor. I could drive it night and day and never tire. That was on the other planet where I used to live. Different here on this planet where I now reside.
Precious memories!
