Without any 6V appliances. Any tips? My long term strategy is to have the charging sytem working properly. In the mean time I will need to fire it up somehow.

Thanks again, I know I'm a pest.

Not to be a pest Arne, but I have a question. Your 6 volt system is not charging. The engine needs juice to light the sparks on the plugs. 12 volt jump starting via the starter terminal is great, but how is that going to put juice into the tractor to keep the engine running, since you have no way to charge the battery, and the tractor's charging system is not working?

I had a bad experience like that while snow plowing my driveway near the road. Sounded like she ran out of gas - instead the battery ran out of juice.

I am probably headed in that direction. Battery is not totally dead and am unsure if the charging system is totally dead or not. I think the battery needs to be replaced, but know for sure I can see as much bare wire as insulated on the wire harness. Harness, voltage regulator plus other parts are en route. Former owner says the generator is good, but needed a VR. For what ever that is worth.

Arne - sounds like you are on the right road - consider this - there may come a time in the future when your battery will need a charge - perhaps an item you want to look into is a 6volt charge or battery tender.

Just a thought.

Ed,

Yeah, I have been thinking about that. I had one a long time ago, but traded it to a guy in Mexico for use with his old VW Manx.

Arny..... ...bare wires? Get a new replacement wiring harness with the correct color codes, wire gauge size, correct terminals, correct lengths. 15 minutes to rewire, well 30 if'n ya make a paper map showing where all the wires go. I was a certified aircraft wiring harness maker and installer and it wern't worth my time and energy to fabricate a $15 replacement harness. Do it..... ...Dell
