I looked at a 47 8n today that is for sale. This would be my first Ford,as the rest of my tractors are red or green. I have two questions about the 8n I looked at. When the tractor is sitting still it is very hard to turn the steering wheel but when it is moving it seems to steer just fine.Any ideas? The second thing is the brakes. The right brake pedal just lays on the running board like it is not connected to anything.I am not familiar with the brakes on these and would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

If it steers OK when moving, you probably don't have a major problem. A good idea would be to check the fluid in the steering box. As far as the brake goes, if it were me, I would jack the rear of the tractor up, remove the wheel, and pull the brake drum. Then you will be able to see what might be the problem. And if you haven't got one already, get a manual for the 8N, the best money you'll ever spend (next to the 8N).

Ole,i thought anything without power steering turned better when moving but you should still be able to turn it with 1 hand sitting still. My Jubilee had some water in the steering box that froze when it was cold but it wouldn`t turn sitting still or moving. Terry

Ole, You are showing how young you are. That is the way stearing was in the days of non power stearing. Definatly a problem in that brake. Maybe just adjustment but probably not.
