Just dug out 1951 8N I got before Christmas, transmission locks up, took cover off, large gear (maybe 1st )has several cipped teeth. Are all of 8n trans. the same? And are parts &and trans. inter changeable??

Broken teeth are probably 2nd gear. Broken 2nd gear is a common problem with 8Ns. I just replaced the gears in my 48 8N with gears, I think, from a 50 8N. Get a parts manual and compare. I think that they are mostly interchangable. Only exception that I can think of is , if you have a shermon, or other aux transmission, the input/output shaft will be different.

I think some of the late 1952 8N's had a lower reverse gear...
