I am going to buy a 6ft. finishing mower in a few weeks. Here is a list of local brands available to me. Tell me the pro's and con's, likes and dislikes, to help me make up my mind on the one to get. I know I want a Rear Discharge. Here are my choices.

1.) KingKutter
2.) Bushhogg
3.) Land Pride
4.) Woods
5.) Frontier
6.) Befco Thanks for the help guys!

I have what I think is a Woods mower on the belly of my WD45. I need to replace the belt and I don't have a clue where to get one. Where are you looking at a Woods? I would like to contact the dealer.

I've posted my thoughts before on the King Kutter. I have the 6 foot finish mower. It's been good to me. Price was right for my budget and it gives a good cut. But, no matter what you get, make sure you do all the upfront servicing (lube everything that needs it first before use and periodically after). Be careful in measuring and cutting the two halves of the shaft if you have to. I have honey locust trees with big sharp thorns. I've had to repair innertubes a few times and these were very easy to do. Good luck.

On a limited budget and knowing very little about cutters I picked up a used Massey Ferguson. The people at Ferguson serviced it. It sure beats the a lawn mower.

Hi Ric-Ky,
I have bragged so much on my 5' Bushog finish mower, that this board is about ready to kick me out. Oh well, one more time. I bought mine 5 or 6 years ago and I am very pleased with it. I use it a lot cutting about 10 acres around the house from April to September. The only thing I have replaced is blades as I sharpen them often. I keep it well greased and under a shed when not in use. It is side discharge, but I never knew I needed a rear discharge until I read it here. My 2 cents worth in rating a choice is: the dealer, the brand and the price (in that order). Good luck.

I bought a 5' landpride finish mower last year.
I used it every week, with no problems.I maintained it properly. Best mower That I ever
owned bar none.

I have sold hundreds of mowers, most of those listed above at some point. Landpride is top shelf and priced accordingly. Bush Hog as well. Woods has tumbled in recent years, and we gave up on KingKutter after one season with a 30%+ problem rate. Sitrex is one of the finest 3 mowers I have ever seen, and we now have it (with our logo on it) at the best prices you will find for the quality. $959/5', $1099/6' Check out the link.

I went with a Bush Hog RDTH72. I liked it better than any other mower I looked at. Heavily built, cuts good. A major bonus is that there is a good dealer close by (best prices in the area, and he kept his place open for me after noon on a Sunday once when I needed a replacement belt; he had it in stock).

I also intend to buy a rear discharge finish mower. Does King Kutter make a rear discharge. I don't think so.

Hi Ric,

I had a 60", gear drive, Wood's finish mower. Their products are well made and hold up well. But I think King Kutter gives you more for your money. Good luck...Al English

I can't really offer a comparison since I only have one finish mower, but I must say the King Kutter seems to be a good product.

I have the FM60 (finish mower 60") and it seems well suited to my 2N. In its first season, I replaced the belt and two tires. Both these replacements were probably my fault. I transported the mower in 3rd gear behind my 2N for about a half a mile on the highway without picking it up. It was here that I got two flat tires. The broken belt happened late in the mowing season and after getting the belt cover off, I realized there was too much grass around the belt and pulleys. As a matter of fact, it was packed in there pretty good and the belt was plenty hot! Other than that, it is working fine.

Just make sure that your finish mower is used for finish mowing, not brush mowing.

Have used my King Kutter for over 6yrs now only repairing tires, replacing belts and blades. It is TOUGH. I had a Woods, OK but pricey (about double the KK)and its housing was thin. Check out the prices, KK should be found at about $950, why pay more? You should pick a mower best suited for your intended purpose and budget.

That's my experience with KK also (I've an FM72). The only real problem I had was when I bent a few things by snagging it on a fence post (and even that was easy to fix and cost a lot less than I was expecting).

About the only thing I can think of that might improve this is rear discharge instead of side ('course, I shouldn't let the grass get tall enough for this to be an issue).

I have a Woods finish mower that I have been very pleased with. I purchased it new last August. I only had that and a no name brand from Quality Farm and Fleet (now belly-up) to choose from locally. The FNH dealer in Ankeny made me a good deal and I know that if I need anything for it they will be there.
