OK, I've been checking my options. Many say sandblasting is so messy and tedious that I don't really want to do it myself. I have been looking for sandblasting recources locally. I came upon this story about an ag teacher at the local University (MTSU..Murfreesboro,TN) and his involvement with the FFA at Egaleville (15 miles from me). Eagleville is the site of the local tractor show & pull. I think I will investigate getting the FFA to do the sandblasting and buy a smaller (not THAT small) compressor so I can spend the savings on the engine rebuild (8N). Hope they will accomodate me.

The link is the article about the Professor and his involvement with repainting old tractors for a mini tractor display here in Murfreesboro,TN.
When I get my camera back I will go down and take some picutres to post here.

Rasputen - I did my own blasting on the first tractor I restored, spent many hours and hauled lots of sand and repaired and unclogged the pressure pot and got sand in every pore of my body etc, etc.

The second tractor I restored (My 640)I took everything I could unbolt off the tractor and took to a local sandblast business. I did the engine/trans rear assy by hand with wire wheels and chemical stripper. The rest of the items came back from the blaster clean and ready to bodywork and paint. About $250.

I'll never do my own blasting again except for small items.

FWIW - Mark
