Spend the whole day doing oil changes to all compartments. Next was new battery and them harychestedmerican cables. Check charging and nothing but battery voltage everywhere. Took out manual and I think the generator is bad. Tried the jumper to see if amp meter would change and nothing, indicating the girl has problems. Anything else I should check? Did polatirty and all connections and the belt but still nothing. Thanks for advice in advance. Paul

Paul,
I had my gen rebuilt last year. I had back surgery (again) and the 8N sat outside for a few months with the hood off before and after. When I got better and found no charging I discovered rust in the brush holders was causing an open circuit. I cleaned the brush holders with a small sand drum on the Dremel tool and then coated the inside surface of the holders with Antiseize. Wiped all I could off but a thin (conductive) film.
This was the KEY to MY generator problems.
Hope it helps you, or someone.

Simple enough to check a generator. Put six volts on it--F O 4 manual tells you how. If'n it motors it will generate

Your mileage may vary

I did the polarity, could I have done it wrong the second time? Or is it that once you do it it is correct? Wasn't sure the first time. Thanks, Paul

Maybe you should try polarizing the generator once.
