Recently bought an 8n. It has a radiator off a small import car. When the tractor is working hard steam comes out of the coolant resivor line. So you have to keep a close eye on the water level in the radiator. There is no oil in the radiator or water in the oil. Do you think putting a real 8n radiator on her will make the old tractor run cooler?

I just had to jump in here with MY radiator experience.

My 8N overheated all the time. Took to the radiator shop and they inspected it..said it looked terrific.

Thought about buying a temp gauge to see what was going on. (Didn't).

EVERYBODY on this board said that an 8N should never overheat. Mine overheated in the first 1/2 hour. I was in West Texas, working the HE$$ out of the tractor and temperature was about 100 degrees already.

Noticed that there wasn't a shroud around the radiator. Contacted Don's and bought the shroud.

Guess what? The shroud didn't fit the radiator!

Hmmmm..

So, I have a "foreign" radiator on my 8N.

Broke down and bought a new one (again from Don's)....

Have worked this tractor to death....bush hogging down 3' tall greenbriar for 6 hours straigt.

Nary a bit of overheating.

Conclusion.....get a new radiator...and be HAPPY!

From MONTHS of grief and trying to get a workaround.

Rusty..... ..what rasputen sez.....
I was absolutely flabbergasted when I went to get my 8N's radiator re-cored at the local radiator shop. (most of the little horizontal fins had corroded off) $250.....new radiator at Ford/New Holland $160. (and you know how pricey Ford parts can be) I told the radiator shop what I thought of their prices and they claimed that it was caused by EPA lead solder regulations..... .yeah, shure.....

EPA..... .same buncha bureaucrats that claim the reason Salmon are endangered 'cuz my sheep leave little ol'pills all over the pasture. Salmon, the only endangered species ya can buy in cans onnna the grocrey shelves..... ...Dell

Well there's farm-raised salmon, and there are wild salmon. Most of the salmon you buy at the store is farm raised. Some is wild, but wild salmon are plentiful enough to fish in certain regions. In other regions, salmon are endangered.

The world isn't black & white.
