FWIW, it doesn't sound to me that the compression is at the root of your problem. IMO the tractor should run with that compression, even if it might not be optimum. It still sounds like the fuel, compression and spark aren't meeting up at the right time & place. When you set up the firing order and initial timing, did you verify rotor direction? Just something that has bit me in the past. The way you describe the way it runs sounds like it's 180 out or something.

Good luck,

Arne

I tried to reply several times. I wonder if the obvious question has been asked: firing order 1-2-4-3?

I was thinking either no.1 was TDC on the wrong stroke, or the order may have been set up wrong direction on the distributor. (Clock wise vs CCW or visa versa. I don't know which way the rotor spins on an N)

Arne..... ...Ford N-Tractor firing order is 1,2,4,3, CCW..... and amaizing enuff.....if'n you INCORRECTLY hook up your firing order 1,2,4,3 CW, that is the same as 1,3,4,2 CCW. ..... ..and even more amaizing, it'll start and run with yer sparkies miss-wired, not a whole lotta power tho...

So bottom line, CORRECT N-Firing order is 1,2,4,3 CCW..... frontmount or sidemount..... ...Dell
