Hey guys. Just tring to get an idea of the amount of land that you have to play with your N on? Does anyone still use their tractor on the same land that it has workrd on all it's life? I use my 2n on the same 17 acres that it has worker all it's life. You can see my place on my site, on the tractors and wallpaper pages.

I have 10 Acres total but only play on about 2 + my driveway of 160 feet at the moment. I have some bush, wetland and meadow and a horse paddock. I'll be using my 8 to repair a rutted trail back to the wetlands and dress an existing trail to the back this spring. I want to plow the paddock for my wife to plant for a flower business ( No horseys here!). I'll be on the look out for a small plow like a 2 bottom. My tractor is a transplant as all the lots here are severed from an original 100 acre plot circa 1970's. StuK

Two acres of my own, plus the neighbor down the road lets me cut and bale his 1 acre. I've got more equipment per acre than anyone else in may area!

I have 37 acres but only 6 acres are useable, the rest is rock and to steep to do anything with. I use my 48 8n to keep up the place and to plow snow which I will be doing when I get home tonight.

My pair of 8ns range over 400 acres. Have a reasonably full line of equipment in case the big Farmalls lay down. One of the 8ns has been in use here since it was new but am not sure which one. Bill

I have a 40 that adjoins 200 acres of state land. The only access to the state land is over my land, so I guess I have 240 acres with 200 tax free!

I live on a city lot, 60 x110 where I have one tractor , 49 Massey Harris , the furthest I can move it is approx 50 feet in a strait line (my driveway)I just enjoy looking at it everyday, illegal to drive on road, Where I keep my 8N is 170 miles away, 3 1/2 hour dive to my (hopefully retirement) recreational property of 11 acres. Of this 11 acres only approx 4 to 5 acres is flat enouhg to play with my 8N, the other is mountain about 75* with Douglas Fir and Pine trees growing that are estimated at 100 years old. Stan

I have 50 acres of which about 10 acres is clear and the rest wooded . Mom and Dad have 30 acres that join my land - about half of theirs is wooded . The land has been in my Mom's family since 1787 .

I have 3 tractors , a 47' 2N ,a 53' TO-30 and a 53' JD 40 . Dad and I use them pretty regularly to plow , disc , bushog , drag logs , etc. .

We always like to have at least two around so when you get stuck in the mud , you have something to pull it out with !

I have 7 acres, and one tractor... the 47 2N. She's a some day restoration project, but right no its my working tractor.

To help feed our family through the ear, I grow corn, potatoes, beets, carrots, and this year beans.

Here- stuff that grows below ground (pototoes, beets and carrots, onions) thrives and yields best. Corn suffers worst, between the deer and the ground hogs that just knock the stalks over and take all they want...

Deer also eat most all the leaves off the bottom 5 or 6 feet of our apple, peach and pear trees. Anyone got any ideas how to stop em? Perhaps a Gatling gun....

Got the same deer/garden problems. Tried almost everything from blood meal to human hair (from the barber) scattered around, to the dryer softner sheets. I've heard that if you string monofiliment fish line about knee high that it will spook them. Supposedly what they feel but can't see scares them. I haven't tried it yet. It might be a pain for us everytime we need to get around the garden. Short of that I like the gun theory.

Good news Bad news: I retired to this 45 acre piece of heaven in NE Iowa (Little Switzerland) 3 years ago. Bought an 8N and a '54 Chevy pickumup. Life is wonderful. OK the wifie plays the divorce card in January. She can't stand it out here in the boonies. Says "we" go or "she" goes. Problem is if she goes so goes the house and 45 acres cause I will have to give her half and I can't afford to buy her out. Any ideas besides homicide would be appreciated.

She says that if I just stay around the house when I retire, she'll leave. Making' sure I have somewhere to go, something to do..... .

Get a Karma Sutra book, it'll keep her happy all your privacy. I would also suggest taking her to a big city every so often. Don't have to spend lots of money, just a few hours in the noise, stink, rush hour traffic, and sore feet from walking the concrete floors of the malls will make her happy to be back out where the the air is sweet, the loudest noise at night are crickets, and the ground is soft underfoot.

Sorry to hear that. You have other problems besides where you live. If it don't work, split the sheets take your haft and put a down payment on another one. Who says it would work out if you moved. I was there once should have ended it 9-years earlier but I kept trying. Now I am happy with a wife of 19 years and live out in the sticks and she loves it. She wants to move out further so we split the differents. Don't waste your good years you have left. Mark H.

Tom,

My wife and I are in our 11th year on our 67 acre retirement place, and both feel very secure...but here's an idea: Find a new wife who wants to live on a 45 acre piece of Heaven. Limit your search to those who have taken their former husband to the cleaners so it will be affordable. That's what your former wife will use for bait! :-)

I've got 20 acres to play with; 7 acres of wheat, 2 acres of horse pasture, 1 acre field for the workshop, and 10 acres of woods with a small stream in the middle. I have a little bit of everything to play with, farming, logging, mowing, scraping, all in miniature I guess.

I have only about 3 acres of my own but my sister owns about 386 acres where I was raised and where I drove the 48 8N for hours and hours in hog heaven. I still do it some 50 odd years later on the same land although at one time her husbands people owned more that two thousand and the 386 is all that is left of it now. The rest is planted in pine trees and I get lost where I used to plow the 8N. Can't even find some of the old fields.

No telling what her kids will do with all of it when my sister is gone.????

I have five tractors and only 3 acres. What is wrong with this equasion???

Back when I worked at the Ford dealership in Talladega we had a customer who managed a farm for one of the largest construction company owners in alabama. His name was Mr. Bitter and he was a German who was a prisoner of war here in the USA and when the war was over he went back to Germany only to find that his family were all gone. He migrated back here to work for the owner of the construction company on his big farm.

I asked him what his father did in Germany before the war and he told me that his father was a truck farmer and that he had raised 10 children on this truck farm. I asked him how many acres did his father own and he told me one acre.

I was astonished that he could have raised 10 children with only one acre truck farm and I asked him what in the world his father would have done if it became impossible to feed the family on the one acre.

Mr Bitter told me that his father would simply reduce the farm to one half acre to make it more effecient.

Well, we got ten acres here.

Been on the property about a year. Before we moved out here the wife and I lived in a zero-lot-line subdivision. Could not even drive my truck into my back yard, would not fit between the houses.

Still can't believe have this much property, even though that ten next door would be a nice addition, it even has a barn..... ....

Well gotta go change my points..

We sold three 1 acre lots in 2000 so down to 14 acres, one for each tractor. Mostly, I'm letting it grow wild with some self seeded oaks and other stuff. I have planted several hundred seedlings over the years. Austrian pine, blue and white spruce, red and white oak, Norway spruce, black walnut are a few. I have an order in to the conservation department for 150 trees this spring.
A friend often sites this old addage, "Wise is the man who plants a tree whose shade he will never see". I don't know the origin or claim to be wise. I do enjoy some very old oaks that are up to 4 feet in diameter.

Watch where you plant black walnuts, We had two maples and a black walnut trees in the yard. The maples started to die off. We had the extension service out to find out why. The black walnut puts out a toxic in the soil that many other plants and trees cant take. They told us if you want black walnuts that the best place for them is in a grove. The maples are gone now. I took them down before they came down on thier own when I didn't want them to.

10-4 Dave, I learned a similar lesson with black walnuts and spruce. I moved 5 walnuts but 5 got too big to move. They will get cut down. The first 5 went to a fence row by themselves. I also have about 30 in a little grove by themselves. The deer seem to like them alot.

96 acres, But not all play, Im basically a tree farmer now. Planting for reforestration. Since 88 have planted about 12000 trees. Red Oaks, white oaks, white spruce, norway spruce and whith pine. it can be heart breaking at times when mother nature deals a nasty blow. Extreamly high winds last month knocked down about 800 tree tubes. Oh well that will keep me busy when spring gets here. Only ordered 150 trees for this years planting.

Well it all depends.

At high tide or low tide?

If the tides are normal I have 5 acres of ours and another 5 of our neighbors. We have a few horses so the N gets the honor scraping up after them. We are also dropping alot of pine trees and the N ahs been handy in the cleanup process.

Yep, our 50 8N bought new by my dad has only left our few acres since bought new. I drove it to town a few times for gas, repairs, etc. I posted a story in the forum Your Stories about a year ago titled "Pulling the Bull". It was one trip to town that I remembered well.
I have never restored our N as it is a working tractor. If I make it purty, I probably won't want to get it dirty. To each their own. Good luck.

I have 8 acres myself, but I play on my Moms 200 on the other side of town all summer. I snake some logs for her and hog her 2+ miles of woodlot road.
I also do some custom hogging for people here in the 'neighborhood'. One lot is 7 acres and another is just over two...
