my N9 quit running right now, just as if I had turned the key off. It tried to stop before but I managed to keep it running by waggling the gear shifter back and forth. But now it is dead. Also it has started to develop a tendency to stick in 1st gear after hard pulls. I am wondering if this a general maintenance issue or just plain wore out issue. Has anybody ever dealt with this before? Also need a good recomendation for a manual. One printed later that deals with the original manuals shortcomings. I will need a rebuild one rather than a show and tell one. Any suggestions????? Thanks

You have two completly different sets of problims, first is your transmission, something wrong buy sticking but moving the gear shift lever did nothing to keep it running, that is all electrical, The netrual safty switch is just a pin in the tranney that has to be in the correct position to press the starter button.

There is no neutral electrical "safety switch" on the original 9N. However, you cannnot engage the starter button unless the gear shift in in neutral. This is a mechanical type safety.

I think your problem may be electrical. Maybe ignition switch (key switch) might be corroded up.

I have the the FO-4 manual, 2 copies, & I have one called Ford Tractor Ferguson System Service Manual for owners & mechanics put out by Harry Ferguson inc. Dearborn, Mich. I don't see any numbers on it any where. I got it at the FNH dealer in Burlington so you might ask your local dealer about it. Between the two books Iseem to get through most of my questions. If you are thinking on a rebuild there are some really great videos you can purchase through this great site. Not very spendy at all. Good luck & keep us posted. Play safe. Rusty 2N
