Hi there everyone. I have been a very appreciative participant of this board for some time. I have a 2n and 8n and have a dearborn dirt scoop but am looking for a reversable scoop that I can back into the pile with. I have been searching around here for quite awhile and haven't located anything. How available are these things - any ideas out there? Than

Tractor Supply stores carry them, they are well built with heavy steel, and reversible.

Our local Central Tractor store had them for $150 brand new, but they went out of business last month. I got mine last year for $15 at a consignment auction. They had 5 or so, the first one went for $100, the next for $55. At the end of the day mine was $15. I guess everyone else had spent themselves out. The thing's rusty, but damned handy to have. I use it as a carryall as well as a scoop. It can be dumped from the seat via rope, and swings back in place. Mine can be hitched either way, but have never had it on facing forward.

I have owned a Dearborn 19-6 scoop, serial no. 38309 for several years. Early on, I think I connected it as a reverse scoop but cannot remember how to do so. Can anyone help?
I have digital pictures of the unit mounted to the front if that would help anyone identify it. It was manufactured by ARPS CORPORATION of New Holstein, WIS. but they are apparently no longer in business.

Just a point of interest Rich, my grandfather had one on his 2n, it was reversable and I remember him using it to backfill the foundation of his new house in 1954. I think he borrowed it because we didn't see it much. The oldfolks circa 1900 called them a turnpike they had two wooden handles and a bail out front to hitch the team to, I don't know if his was made from one of them or store bought. Don't know if you believe in evolution or not but I believe them to be the prehistoric ancestor of today's scrapers. Just thought I'd add this.Bob

Bob, Is this what you are talking about? It's called a slip scraper. Its a two man job. one to drive the tractor or team of horses and one to work the scraper. Believe me you do not want to operate one of these. Hard work but I supose it beat a shovel and bucket.

That's it Dave. My grandfather talked of spending many hours behind one of them. When he and his two brothers started farming on there own,(circa 1905)they and their father built a new barn each, they turnpiked the dirt for the barn bridges. These barns had a stone stable under them as you see in penn. if you understand what I mean. Barns where you live might not be the same.
Thanks.Bob

The scoops were buggers to work with. In 1951 when I was 14 years old a man hired me for $.25 per hour to help dig a basement under his house. He drove the Fordson and I drove the scoop. I worked for that money and was glad to get it. We have some of those barns around here with ramps and bridges to the loft. Nice to be able to drive right in. Our barn does not have that. It was built in 1939.

PS I bought this scoop at a garage sale for $5.00. Don't ever intend to use it.

Look's in good shape Dave. Well worth the $5, good thing people like us don't have unlimited time, space and money or there would be a world wide shortage of scrap metal. I know two old brothers around here who do though. They have steam shovels on wheels & on tracks, a pair of english steam tractors with under drums for plowing ( think their rh & lh used in pairs ) a small steam locomotive or two plus about a million worth of scrap. They aren't scrap dealers either, their accumulators.

That wouldn't be on Rt 65 on the way to Mistinikon Lake from New Liskeard would it? There is someone out there that has some interesting stuff.

Rich,

King Kutter makes a decent 30" reversable scoop that is carried at Mill's Fleet Farm for under $200.

Ed _ I called Edney distributing with the phone number you listed. You were right - they do have a scoop that lists at $280 and they wholesale to local dealers. I am very thankful for your help. I can't say enough about this n board. Thanks.

I bought mine at a Tractor Supply Company and I have seen them at other such farm supply places. They are quite available in southern Illinois and Montana. Mine works really well and gets used a lot.... see photo on ----- --page. Good luck!!! P.S. The collective wisdom of tractor buffs and their willingness to help others makes this N-board an exceptional source of information.
