RTV Silicone ok

My new sedimant bowl leaks like a banshee. It just literraly drips very fast from the top of the bowl through the cork gasket as the tractor is running. When stopped and turned off, the leaks slows down to a small drip, but it still fills up the bowl so even though it is turned off it still has a small drop coming from the valve!

Is there a silicone or other type of non-solvent reactive paste ot caulk I can use with the cork gasket to seal this off?

Is RTV gas proof and where do I find it so the caulk won't dissolve with gas?

Or what other product is there I can get. I am bumming big time becasue I want it stopped. A new sedimant bowl, valve, screens etc. acts like a cheap part. Do they make a real good one somewhere?

RTV will NOT work around gas.

don't blame don b. for crappy shut off valves. i bought one from him and one from the local NH dealer, both were the same, both leaked. those cork gaskets aren't worth a hoot, i wound up usuing a old rubber gasket from the old valve assembly.

yup the rubber gasket from napa is my vote had the same problem played with it many times decided to go to napa and get one,, no leak I went back and got another for a spare,,, I also have a note for the screw in the back side of the sediment bowl, i use it to bleed the gas into the bowl ,,, less gas on my fingers than letting it run out the bowl, tighten when the bowl is fulll and away ya go. good luck

I think I know what the problem is! I have replaced two of these in the past three years. They both leaked like a seive! I struggled with the first one for days before figuring it out. My problem had nothing to do with either the cork gasket or how tight or loose it was. On the top part of the unit there is a brass plug which allows you to run the fuel line at a different angle (for Jubilees). This plug was only hand tight on both units. Before you do anything else TIGHTEN THE BRASS PLUG firmly with a wrench. Good luck, hope this helps!

I fought mine, and tried every fix I could think of. Someone on this board recommended a rubber o-ring. I took the bowl to my local ACE hardware and found a round rubber o-ring that fit. It cost less than a dollar and the bowl has not leaked since. LOL.

My sediment bowl was also leaking. So I bought a new sediment bowl. Still leaked! So I bought the NAPA gasket mentioned, and it hasn't leaked since. The easiest, cheapest fix I ever pulled off. Toss the cork!

I would suggest that you double check that the leak is not in fact, from the threads where the valve body is screwed into the fuel tank. If you have not sealed this with pipe dope or at least silicone, this may be your problem.

I had to finally replace my Sediment Bowl with a Brass Ball Valve. I couldn't ever get them to stop leaking, I must have tried 5 of them! The Brass Ball Valve I got from O'Reilly Auto Parts. They had fittings available to screw it up into the tank and another fitting to install my rubber gas line. I have not had any leak now!!

If you are sure the leak is coming from the cork gasket, then I agree it is a seating problem. Mine once leaked also. The nut ran out of threads before it would clamp the bowl tightly to the seat. I used a washer between the bowl and the nut make it secure. After I finally got disgusted, I threw it all away and put an inline filter on. Good luck.

Toss the cork gasket and replace it with a NAPA #730-9506 Balkamp Gasket. Make sure the screen is on top of the gasket (not touching glass) and do not over tighten. Cork gaskets of today are not what they used to be and effectively they went out years ago!

I had the same problem this fall. I bought a new assembly and once I finally got the leak to stop, (by tightening the packing nut), the valve was so hard to open I needed pliers. Where did you get the assembly? Turns out mine was very poorly made. I purchased on from Don B. and had no problem after installation. I was woth it to me to replace with a good quality part. HTH.

yeah it was from Don I think it's a bad one, but then again, the last one I bought, from Don the valve screw fell apart and that's why I got this one.

try varying degrees of tightness on the screw that holds the sediment bowl in place. Mine will leak if it is too tight or too loose. I rotate the bowl and adjust the tightness until the leak stops.

It sounds like something is not seating properly. Just coating it with sealant is not the right way to fix it. I would take it off where you can examine all the parts closely. Look for burrs or cracks and make sure the bowl and gasket fit correctly. It is easy to get a leak if something is out of place.

Sometimes the screen can get under the gasket and prevent it from sealing.
