My 8N rear rims look as if they might come apart, that is the part the tire goes on, can be removed from the part that connects to the axle.

Please could someone clairfy this for me?

Own a '49 8N with original rear and front tires.
Just last week lost air in one due to old age. It had the calcium solution and did sone damage inside. Went to farm & home supply and bought a piece of flat steel (3" wide) to weld around the inside of the wheel. Did a great job. Went to auto supply store and bought some fiberglass (bondo) to mend the welding area. Looks very good, and cannot tell it ever had rusted out.

Yes, they do come apart. No, it is not easy. the carriage bolts are 7/8" as I recall. I used a 3/4" drive WITH a cheater and twisted 3 in two. After the nuts were removed. I placed the wheel to where the center section was on the bottom and jumped from my pick-up onto the center section. I think it too two hops for one and maybe three for the other. Your hops may very depending on rust and weight. (Wheel rust and your weight)

The inner part of the wheel does bolt to the outer, and it can bolt on either side of the loop. The inner part of the wheel can also be reversed giving several tread width possibilities. This is just one of the many things explained in the manuals available for your tractor.

the rims rot out from the calcium solution used in the tires. new ones are available, not quite the same as originals...they mount to the wheel centers with loops instsead of the continues bead. if you want to try & save the originals (they look cuter) take them to a welder & see if there's enough meat left to weld a band around the inside...check the archives, I've seen more specific info posted. LOL
