Ok - I put in an 8 volt in my old 46 2n and had all kinds of hellacious problems. Claus tried to help me out but I said the h---- with the 8v and installed a new 6v. Tractor starts fine but still starts to run very rough after 1/2 hour. coil is not hot and put in different coil and still does not run right until it cools down. Generator is running just about right now at 5 amps instead of 15 amps with 8v. Is it possible I could have damaged the condensor? Iknow this is a simple system

For what it’s worth, I use to have an old motorcycle that would eat up condensers. It seems that the particular design of the condenser lended it’s self to moisture penetration into the foil and wax plates. The engine would run OK at slower speeds and would get worse as engine temp and RPM increased. Eventually, it just would die. I replaced the condenser 5 times in 4 years on that motorcycle. So it could be a failing condenser, but it could also be something else or a combination of other little things. Remember 6 volts are excellent systems if every thing is new, clean, bright, and tight.

Dad ran an 8volt in the Funk V8 for years with no problems. Just jump the terminals on the back of the switch and see if the problem goes away.

Rich..... ...there is the possibility that the ignitions switch contacts are "gunked up" and this will reduce the voltage to the ignition coil and cause hard running. It ususally take about 1/4 hr for the ignition to heat up and about 1/2 hr to cool down to restart. Its a cheep switch and your 8 volts probably helped its demise and actually "hid" its impending demise.

And no, 8 volts did not damage your condenser, they are rated for 200 volts..... ...Dell
