I am continuing my efforts to fix up my 8n with the Dearborn FEL 19-61. I pulled off all the hoses and replacements are being made. I also pulled the front pump and it is a Victor Vane pump. Is there a sure fire way to tell if the pump works? I would guess it needs to be rebuilt or replaced, does any one know of where parts and info can be found?

Also, from my last post it seems that the 19-61 FEL is for a NAA. That news is discouraging based on the fact that I bought it from an ad that described it as being for an 8N. I hope my funds, time and effort are wasted on a loader that won't fit me tractor. Is there a way to tell before I get too far, although I seemed to be fully committed at the point. I will post a picture soon.

thanks,
Allan

Hi Allan-
Are you sure that the pump isn't a "VICKERS"? I think they are called SPERRY-VICKERS now so try and give them a shout...

Try this:
www.vickers.com and you'll get the EATON AEROSPACE home page. EATON CORP owns Vickers now...hope this helps.

PS: I sent them a message about getting parts for the old hyd pumps and will let evryone know if they reply...

Hi Allan. Pumps can be expensive, may double your cost, so procede with caution, do what Dell said and if the loader look's like a good fit. Take the pump apart carefully, do not drop anything( the vains always want to fall where you can't find them). Look at the front and rear plates and cam ring. These will tell all, if they are fairly smooth ( not scored or rippled ) match up the two "o" rings and put it back togather. Poure some oil into it and make sure it turns over as freely as before you started. The bigest problems are cam ring rippel ( center section) and end plate wear or scoring. Make sure the vains are all free in the rotor( be carefull vains and rotors are usually directional keep them the way you found them),then put in clean bag until needed. Good luck, pull this off and be proud of yourself.
Bob

Hi Allen. It has been awhile since I chatted with an Vickers Pump engineer friend. He recommended that "put a new pump on. If the system works better, then the problem was with the old pump!"

Allan i would have the pump checked at your nearest hyd repair shop if you dont want to do it your self, its not hard to do it your self though.I have resealed many vane pumps and found them to be verry tough.if you take it appart and find the center section a little wavy dont discard they all look like that after a little use.their should be a series of numbers stamped onto the pump that you will need to order parts, and also is the pump victor or vickers.I can give you the number of the shop i use for parts and repairs if their isnt one close to you.

Years ago I found a hydraulic repair shop in Detroit that rebuilt my loader pump. I don't remember the name. I wonder, is there probably a hydraulic repair guy nearby who has some parts stashed away on a shelf just waiting to dig into an old pump? Find a really old dark hole of a place with 1 light bulb to work by. Good luck.

I saw a vicker's vane pump on Ebay a couple of nights ago under "hydraulic pumps) Don't know the URL but you could search it out on Ebay if it has not sold. It was for a loader.

Don't know where you could ever find any parts for a Vickers pump.

The Baum Company at one time had some repair parts for some of the Vicker's pumps.

Hi Zane. Are the loader pumps some odd type, different than the square, cartridge ones around now? If they have a cartridge inside they might be similar, been a long time since we sold the jubilee, forget what it was like.

The one I saw on Ebay for the front loader was the square type. Made in the same fashion as the NAA hydraulic pump for the 3 point hitch

Thanks for the reply Zane. Someone posted a shot of the parts book, it's not like the Vickers I usually work on but I have seen some pumps like it. I think I'll tell him to invest in two o rings and have a look inside, it's probably still good if it hasn't digested any dirt. That loader pump has a nice life compared to the stuff I usually see. We could have used a good Ford man like you 40 yrs ago, nobody could fix our 3pt hitch hyd right, probably needed your fixture.
Dad was a good mechanic to a point ( farmers have to be ) but no hyd exp.

Allan..... ....NAA is 4" longer wheelbase than N's. If'n the front axle bracket is an "extended" bracket, I'd guess it'd fit. FYI, N's wheelbase is 70". Time to get out the tape measure.

Lotta people don't know the difference between 8N and NAA's, they're both painted Grey and Red.

Don't know nuttin 'bout yer pump, sorry. ..... .Dell
