Greetings, tractor maniacs!
I have taken the front mount distributor off the 2N and now I must pull the beige plastic rotor off the shaft. It seems to be pretty stuborn and before I get ugly with it I thought I would ask you what the correct procedure/method is to get it to loosen. Thanks
Reid

Right or wrong, this was my approach when I had the exact same thing happen to me when tuning up the 2N. As I had a replacement rotor and was throwing away the old one. I put vise grips on the part of the rotor that slides on the shaft and tightened down the vise grips so that when I closed them around it, it cracked the rotor sleeve. Came off easy then.

Last time I pulled mine, it was also quite stubborn, and unfortunately my fingers were a little dirty - put a deep bloody gash in my thumb with metal tab - be careful!

When I posted my stuck rotor dilemna, I got an e-mail response, which I am placing here for your reference..... .

"Here is what happens over a long period of time.

If there is any of the grease that is placed on to the rotor shaft that gets up under the rotor it will act like varnish and glue the rotor to
the shaft. If you take some starting fluid and spray on the shaft it will almost instantly dissolve the varnish and the rotor should slip
right off. If using starting fluid worries you, then use some oil of wintergreen. If you don't have any of then, then get out the bug and
tar remover, that stuff used to take road tar off your car, spray the shaft down with that. Keep in mind that all of these are solvents and the grease where the points contact the shaft of the rotor will have to be daubed back on. I use a cotton swab and some light wheel bearing grease anytime I lube the points where it contacts the shaft. Not a lot, just a light coating is enough.

Sincerely
George

PS: Hey, if you own a ford tractor and you don't bleed a little every
now and then, well you ain't normal."

Ok, I'll warm up with my best bowling ball grip and give it an inertial shock.
