Okay, suppose I have my drawbar all setup like the pic I put in the other message, but am using a PTO driven implement, like a baler. Do I just ensure the lever is locked down?

The original dearborn stays came with a chain and an embossed tag. The chain was for you to chain down the quadrant control lever and the embossed tag had a warning about not using the lift when the stays were on.

Once in a while one of those turns up on ebay

Yup! The stays won't keep the drawbar from lifting if'n you raise the quadrant lever. You just bend the stays. Don't ask how I know.
