In the carburetor rebuild kit I received there is a white felt washer looking thing with a small hole , and a black rubbery round piece...too thick and soft to be a washer...are these the packing? My carb didn't have these parts inside. For example, the directions say "Install throttle shaft, retainer and packing in position".Which is the retainer and which is the packing?Directions aren't clear enough for a first time rebuilder. Also, the carb on my early 48 8N is a TSX33...shouldn't it be a TSX241?I thought the TSX33 was for a 9N.

Rick,
Try this web site for a step by stpe instructions on a carb. rebuild Link
As>Link far as your carb. being a TSX-33, I have a 1950 8N with a TSX-33. I don't know if it is original or if it had been changed over the years?
Good luck.

Hi Rick,
Don Stewart has a step by step rebuild of both carb and governor with pictures over in the archives or articles. They are two of the best posts that I have ever read in YT. Take a look and see if you don't agree. Good luck.

Rick, the felt is the packing and goes on throttle shaft from outside carb the retainer goes after felt so it stays on shaft and in carb
