I'm saving my money for a Live Thang. Ever think how this will save on wear and tear of the PTO and pump?? Won't have to use the PTO all the time when using a blade or scoop. For me, that's about 90% of the time. Should only need the PTO when using a mower or some other implement requiring the PTO. If Zane figured it out, I have no doubt it will work.

I doubt if there is anyone on this board that wants to be more "correct" than I am when it comes to restoring a tractor.BUT,I do have a 2n that I use around my place that I will thrilled to use once I install the "Live Thang and the"Zane Thang" on it.I'm putting these on for my use,not for looks or bragging rights. If Zane says they will work, they will work. don

It amazes me at how some of you guys are such purists and revolt at the concept of something as simple as a 12V convert, but will go to significant expense to toy around with something as unconventional as live hydraulics on an N.

Maybe we're not so much purists as "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"ers. As I see it, there isn't any problem with a 6 volt system, there isn't any reason to go to the expense of changing from 6 to 12 volts. There is a good reason to improve the operating qualities of the 8N by installing a live thang, it also makes it a lot nicer for the operator, can also save a bunch of time. If Henry had thought of it, it would have been on the tractor.

Why is that important? Planning to taunt and harass me? Or planning to drive over on your N to beat me up. That's ok, my Daddy is tougher than your Daddy. Made a simple observation, thats all. In response to Mike, Henry would of used 12V if he had thought of it as well. FoMoCo sure switched to 12V quickly after someone else invented it. I have no problem with converting an N to Live Hydraulics, none at all. Just find humor in how some guys seem so contradictory. I am willing to bet that if the Great Zane had invented the 12V conversion, boxed it and sold it, you guys would be lining up around the block to buy it. What a fantastic tribute to Zane, and deservingly so.

Well, obviously you were worried about someone taunting you... driving over to your... daddy and.... harrassing him, or you would have shown respect to those on this board by leaving a name and e-mail address.

Your message response was not helpful to the original question asked and really had no place here.

Like most names people use here are actually their real names. Are you suggesting that the name you give is your actual name, Ed-Illinois? If so, you parents had a wierd sense of humor to name you after a state. If your birth given name is not Ed-Illinois, then I guess you are exhibiting the "disrespect" you think is going on. The web is anonymous for a reason. Heck, why don't we just restructure the entire WWW to require all users to leave first and last name, phone number, address, SSN, DL#, etc on every post? Furthermore, are you some commie-pinko who thinks it is disrespectful to observe my Constitutional Right to privacy?

Secondly, I see posts in nearly every message that do not directly answer the question at hand. As far as helpful, some give advice that is so bad it would cause more problems than it fixes. Very little is objective. Some are from guys who have so little experience working on an N that they don't know that they don't know what they are talking about (how long have you worked on N's?). Some are just a regurgitation of that persons interpretation of someone elses response (kind of like a consultant). Some responses deviate so far from the topic I have to hit the back button to retrace the thread (this one looks like it has headed that way, my bad).

As to the previous bantering between us, as well as my original post, EXCUSE ME for trying to joke around. But when comes to Zane zealots, I know that you know what I say is true (no disrespect Zane, I think you are a genius).

As Cartman would say (you like Cartman don't you), "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"

No one asked for your real name, just a handle and an addy so this discussion might have been done off the board where it probably belonged.

Not like following your IP addy is all that hard.
The internet is not as anonymous as you seem to think it is...

I have one on both my 52 8N and my TO 20 Ferguson.

It is scary when you start the tractor and have the clutch pushed down and look around and the lift is raising the plow before you asked it to. Been letting out the clutch to raise the lift for so many years it's hard to get used to it doing it without asking it to.

Don't know how long it will last but it is working great and amazing all my customers right now. Don't know how long the Ns and Fergusons will last either but they seem to be hanging in there for the past 60 odd years so I guess they will be here for a while yet too.

Hope to have the cash in hand soon to get one. I am spreading the word already to the masses. Hope they go like hotcakes. I am seeing N's everywhere I go. I can count 5 within 5 mile radius. And that doesn't count the hundred series or the N's in barns I can't see. Or the Fergy's. Are they sure there was only a million built? DON TX

Mine arrived yesterday. I probably won't get it installed for a month from now. Too many other projects to clean up first.

C'mon...take a chance! Be the first on your block! Think how great it will be years from now to tell all your N friends "Ya know, I was the first to have a Live Thang on my N way back in ott-2".

Jim.UT

P.S. I'd get one, but my 850 already has live hydraulics.

I think I will invest in one soon. I was using my 8N yesterday to backfill a block wall (a lot of short runs both pushing and pulling) and this is very hard on the clutch not to mention these 50 year old knees. Bob
