It is posibly the key switch or you may have a short somewhere in the ign line that is giveing low current to the points. Also if the 6 volt system was replaced to 12 volt make sure there is a resistor in the line or this will also help to damage the points faster. First thing to do is to get a multimeter and see if any voltage is geting to the points with the key off. If so replace the switch and if it still does this replace the ign switch to dist wire. For safty and to avoid any problem like this I have installed quick disconects on all of the tractors that are kept inside . I use the type that connects between the battery and cable. All you have to do is turn the screw knob a turn to connect or disconect. This avoids a chance of electrical fire when in storage. And it is safer when at shows because there is no chance of someone starting it by mistake.

Try unhooking the lead from the keyswitch. The switch may be gunked-up and allowing a small amount of current through to the points.
