My 8n is smoking pretty bad (oil). It will foul new plugs in just a few hours.I know I'm looking at a rebuild soon, but the thing still has good power. Is there a band-aid I can use to get me through the mowing season with-out changing plugs ever couple hours????? ????? ? Now I wish I had taken it down over the winter instead of waiting untill I need to start using it.

Rich..... ..use a hotter sparkplug. use champion H12's or equivalent.

There is a "anti-foul" sparkplug extender that you can try. I'd don't like 'em but sometimes they work as a bandaide for you.

You know the real answer don't you? Do a compression check, dry then wet, Ford recommends 90 psi min..... ..Dell

I had the same problem with a 51 8N. Bought it. Put in new plugs. Drove it home about 2 miles. New plugs were already fouled. Sounded good and good oil pressure so I opted to just hone the cylinders and put in new rings. That was 15 years ago and it still runs strong. I don't remember when I changed plugs last. Good Luck rjohn

Rich , I dont like using aditives, they are a cover up , however I had an old Plymouth back in the 50s that burned a lot of oil , so I added a can of STP oil treatment, It helped lower oil consumption. The engine went out a few months later with a cracked piston ring .
