Is my governor working?

When i first start the 2n i like to run it slow till it warms up (1/4 - 1/2 throttle). When i engage the pto to lift the bush hog, it will try to stall if i do not give it some fuel. Should this happen or should the governor try to fix this near stall condition? Maybe if it was working i would be able to hog at 3/4 throttle not wide open like i am now. The hogging i do is in first gear and in very long grass and things like deep clover and honeysuckle(sp). Any tests you can give me to do? Thanks for any info. PS. I got a very old ( the original ) governor that i want to take apart and rebuild.

No, the Gov. is not working. As the engine slows under load the governor should keep the engine speed at a near constant speed. If the linkages are tight and no slop in the governor spring, it is time to rebuild. If it is not in too bad of a shape, you may get away with the short kit.

Might check linkages also. I'm sure some of you have seen some cobbled affairs on about all of the N's systems.

Thanks guys. I do have the I&T FO-4 manual and the assembly manual. I took the original governor that has been on the shelf for the past 30 years and cleaned it up. It looks like i will need to get the master repair kit. I hope to be able to rebuild this one so that i can just switch governors when it is time. It still has lots of paint on it!
