Ifn the tang is offset, then when do you put the straight edge against it. I know when the points are going to open but, At 180 degrees it changes. It has a mark "A" on it, this is probably the side to use but I am not sure. Thanks, Paul

I am using i&t fo4 and it shows tang and place st. edge on left and measure the distance between bolt hole and st. edge, which I have done and come up with that 1/4". But when you turn tang 180 degrees and measure it changes so it does matter the position of the tang for measuring. This was brought to my attention by Zane who said the tang is offset. If it is offset then the measuring has to me done from one side of the tang. Tang is marked with an "A" which you can see in the manual but no mention of the offset. Dang Zane got me all confused. I know that the offset is designed so you can't put dist. back in incorrectly, well I guess you could but you would crack the dist. housing. This also proves about the offset. Thanks Barnstormer, but I'll bet that this might give you a headache like it has giving me. Been alnight thinking about this one. Should have just left it alone. Paul

Paul, my shop manual shows the tangs to the right of center with the top of the dist. to your left, and placing the straight edge on the left side of the tangs. Hope that helps. What are you using for a manual? I keep three working copies and an original. My hands are always dirty. When a copy gets beyond useable, I trash it and make another copy.
