My experience with the 8N axels has been to put the round cork axel seal between the inside of the hub and the bearing race. This squezes the seal as the hub is tightened on the splines and keeps oil from following the splines to the outside by the nut and washer. If hub and axel splines are loose or go too deeply onto the shaft this seal will be ruined. A little silicone on the splines would not hurt but have never had much luck doing this, unless hub and axel are in good shape.

Their is a cork gasket that is supposed to go between the big flat washer and the outer end of the hub. This is to prevent the oil from leaking through the spline to the outside. If the tractor has the inner seals it is not likely to leak there even if the cork is omitted. Most times it won't leak even with the older 8Ns with only the outer seals. I would put them on if I had them.
I think that a good squirt of silicone glue at the end of the spline would do the same thing.

I wish I had that stuff back when I was working on the Ns in the early sixties.
