I have a new thermostat and upper hose. Do I have to remove the hood? Should I drain the radiator and block? Should I replace the antifreeze and the lower hose also? What else should I do while installing the thermostat? (presently don't have a thermostat in the tractor)
Arthur

Authur..... ..your call on lower hose, but examine it closely for wear from fanbelt.

Watch which way you install the thermostat at engine end of the upper radiator hose. sometimes there is an engraved arrow showing water flow direction, sometimes not. Sometimes it is not intutitive obvious whichway to install the thermostat.

As a check, after you got everything put back together, start up the engine with the radiator cap off. You should feel hot water in a couple of minutes, if not turn it off. WAIT...it'll burp, sure sign thermostat wrong direction (don't ask). Wait till cooled off and then reinstall thermo the other direction if'n it burpped..... ....Dell

If It Was Mine & I Couldnt Get At The Top Hose I Would Unbolt THE Hood & Block It Up& Change The Plug Wires & Plugs & Put Both Hoses On.Set A 5 Gallon Bucket Under The Lower Hose & Drain The Radiator Buy Taking The Hose Off The Radiator.Refill With 50 50 Mixture Of Water & Antifreeze. You Didnt Say If It Is Front Or Side Mount Dist.Ex Wife Took Most Everything & Im Like Dell I Cant Mind Read.Fix It All At Once & When You Want It It Will Be Ready To Go.Dont Forget To Use Solid Copper Wires. New Holland Dealer Has Them. Good Luck

You might be able to get to the upper radiator hose without removing the hood, but you would have to do some serious gyrations to wiggle things in and out of there. You will need to drain the radiator to below the level of the bottom of the hose, and if it has been a while since it has been changed, why not drain and refill it completely? Does your lower radiator hose look weak? *IF* it were me, I would change both if there were any question at all. Radiator hoses are pretty cheap, and since you are halfway there already, why not do it all? Just my humble opinion...
