I bought a used 1992 Chevy Silverado 350 about a month ago. Great truck in fabulous shape except that it was missing the release knob/bar from the emergency brake system. Fine for me - down here in LA. I just set into 1st and ok until I can get a replacement piece. It is missing the rod and knob etc.

Problem is --- the ole' wife'o decided to move my truck about 10 feet and set the emergency brake for some apparent reason. (insert something here)
Now I cannot free it up. Anyone have any experience or pics to help with this? I know it can be done as my neighbor did it before when I first bought it. But he is out of town at the present moment. I got a lot of work to do with it today around the farm and I really need to get it unlatched.

Last time he got it with just a pair of pliers.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Andy

Andy, I hope Dan's right and you can just release the pedal ratchet. It's pretty easy to do. I wonder if the cable under the truck is stuck. If the pedal doesn't spring right up when you release it, you will need to crawl underneath and work the cables loose with a pair of pliers to release the cables. I hope that isn't the case, cause if it is, you will need new cables.
Good Luck and God Bless,
Tommy

Andy if you dont have the brake off by now, the release is above park brake arm small L shaped bracket with small slot for release cable, push up with screw driver. Put some pressure on peddle so it wont slap end of your nose.

Darned if I can picture what knob/bar you need.
Is this a ratchet foot pedal on the left near the door or a lever between the seats?

Either is just a 'lever' that pulls a cable and there is a 'ratchet' lock affair that falls into a detent on a cog.
You need to find the thingy that falls into the cog and pry it up or the lever that pulls it up and away from the cog.
That is where you put your pliers.

If this is the foot pedal on the left, KEEP YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE WAY when she lets go, or you will give yourself a concussion...

Sincerely Hope This Helps!

Easier to do then tell ya or type...
