Well I saw the hummingbirds show up at the feeders last Wednesday. Now there are a few there feeding about every 15 minutes. We always have lots of them feeding in the summer. We usually have out 6 or 8 feeders. They can eat up a lot of sugar in the summer. We mix 4 parts water to 1 part sugar and boil and cool it before giving it to them.Who else has seen any, when and where. Thanks, and have a good week..R.M. In AL.

Probably won't show up here in Montana until around the first of May.

Your mileage may vary

We put out a feeder every summer. But we don't boil the sugar water, we just mix it up and put it in the feeder. I wonder why you would boil it, is it to sterilize before you put it in the feeders? And wouldn't it become contaminated again in just a few hours? I'm not trying to be a smart aleck. I just want to know so I can do the right thing. We really enjoy them and are amazed how they show up every year. Charles

I asked the wife about the boiling, and she said it keeps down the souring and mold. She also says every week to clean the feeders in vinegar water to kill some sort of mold or fermiting.Im not positive it works but it must cause,we never have one to mold or get black inside. If I had to feed them they would have to take a little mold along lol..R.M. Good to hear they are on thier way up. They are not due here for another 4 to 6 weeks. I wish the Govt. would issue them Social Security numbers. They sure go through a lot of sugar and I could use the dependants. We got snow again yesterday. Not enough to move but enough to make the ground white.

They make their annual northward migration from Central and South America around this time. They should arrive here by next week. You should have abundant food available for them so they can renourish after the flight. I love these little birds and they can become quite sociable. It's amazing that they travel so far and are so aerobatic.

RM, I have had them feeding for about a week now. That cold snap kinda slowed them down but they are feeding like mad now, had about 20 this morning buzzing all around! Chuck.
