...To express profound happiness. :) i bought my first truck the other day. It's a 1964 Ford F-350 with a flatbed and 4 speed. It has a heavy- duty V6 in it, so I wont burn much gas. It needs a radiator, and paint, and a lot of other minor stuff, but we drove it home, and it doesnt smoke the least little bit. As soo as I get our scanner working on the new computer I'll post pictures.

I'm almost finished with my grandfathers mower. I couldnt find rims for the old rear end, so my dad is helping me put in a newer one. It needs tires, but it ran for the first time in 16 years the other day.

Well, that's it for now...

Rambling,

but, don't believe that part about not burning much gas. I had a 300ci-six Ford 3/4 ton and it never got above 13 mpg even when brand new.

I just checked my MOTOR manual for 1964 F350. It shows engines for '62 - '64 as 6-223, '65 - '71 as 6-240, and '73-'75 as 6-300. Of course, as I said earlier, it could very well have an engine from a later model truck installed. 1964 does show a 6-170, 6-200, and 6-262 but it does not show any of them as original engines in the F-350. I do not see the 6-300 listed until 1965, but I suppose a late '64 production could have had one. Anyway, good luck with it and keep us posted.

BG- Well, hopefully...:)

DavidO- I know Ford didnt make a V6. You know Ford didnt make a V6. My father, however, is dead set that this is the original engine in the truck, so I gave up on trying to convince him that it isnt. Even the little information plate on it where it says "Date: 19 85" didnt convince him...

Well, sometimes its just better to "go with the flow". I have manuals on that ventage truck so if you are looking for specs, procedures, etc. let me know. I am glad you got it whatever engine it has. I hope you have fun with it.

That's great news!

But like the other guys said, there was no heavy duty v-6, what you have is a 6-300 inline 4.9L

Enjoy the truck! I don't think Ford made a V6 back then. It's probably a 300 cu in inline 6. From what I remember that engine was pretty much bullet-proof. Here's a site that you may find useful.

Congratulations on your "new" truck. I have a 1970 F100 that I have had for over 20 years. I bought a new F350 a little over a year ago, but I just can't make myself get rid of the old truck. It still runs good and I recently replaced the transmission in it (4 speed). I really like the 50s and 60s vehicles (and my 1948 8N). I grew up working on them and just can't get them out of my system. I don't recall Ford having a V6 in 1964. Could it be an inline 6? Maybe the engine has been replaced with a later model. Anyway, I have a lot of manuals on that older stuff if you need any info, specs, etc.
